if anyone wants a little payback - lead them on and tell them you will pay 6 months rent in advance along with a huge deposit. Tell them you have sent the money and give them a fake 10 number receipt number and then ask for the keys. They will go to Western Union 30 times a day looking for their money before they click on after a few days........ paybacks a bitch :)

Being the friend of someone whose name apears on the above list, I thought I'd share this. My friend was looking for an apt on Craigslist and found a too good to be true apartment. She exchanged identification information with the person. But once the person asked for money to be wired to Western Union in London, my friend wised up and sent nothing. Now there are warnings with my friend's name all over the place, including here. That person who tried to scam her is using my friend's name to scam others. So know that the above names aren't the real names of these people and you're spreading lies about the people who are these people. I understand you are trying to warn others, but it's very upsetting to the victims whose names are being used illegally.

We do all realise the situation; that these Nigerians don't use their own names, instead they use the names and ID from people they have scammed in the past.

I was one of those people scammed and I'm expecting to see my name pop up any day now. I will be more than happy to add my name to the long list if it prevents someone from dealing with that scammer and losing money.

Isn't it better to warn people so that when there are enough warnings posted, people stop dealing with these scammers and hence they stop committing a crime under someone else's name?

I'm sorry that your friend feels exposed and upset about this but how else can we end this perpetual cycle?

i understand. but what happens when you actually try to do something legitimately online and can't because no one believes you are not a scammer? it really sucks cause my friend recently changed her name because she got married and is so excited about the new name and now there's all the crap out there about it. and it's a unique name too with almost nothing out there but the bad stuff.

Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of this type of scam on craigslist and sent him/her my contact information (no bank information or anything), but then researched the e-mail address based on a tip and found that in fact it is a scam. I'm glad I caught it before I tried to cash the check.

Marie Millecamps tried to scam me in June 2007.

I was looking for a property in London upon finishing university. I saw the ad on easyroommate.com, the flat was in a lovely apartment building near the tower bridge, and the interior was beautiful, like a 5 star hotel.

I was curious, so emailed the poster asking how much the rent was, expecting it to be extortionate. They replied saying it was £400 per month. If you have ever lived in london, you will know that for a beautiful, central apartment, that is peanuts!

'Marie Millecamps' asked me to give more information about myself to 'see if we would get along', I just supplied bare minimum, my age, that I was a student who would be graduating soon and was currently looking for a job. Nothing substantial, just boring small talk! I then asked her to provide me with some details about her - if I would be living with her, how many people would be living in the property, etc etc.

She replied to my email saying "thanks, I think we would get along great! I will send you a tenancy agreement and contract soon." She did not respond to my questions in any way. I replied saying "Thanks, but I cannot sign a contract until I have viewed the property and you have answered my questions. I will be in London on Saturday, can I please view the property then?"

I got no reply until about 2 days later, when she just sent me an email with a tenancy agreement attached, asked me to sign it and send it to her. Again, I responded firmly saying that I would not sign a tenancy agreement for a property I have not viewed. That was the last I heard of her!

Please, people....USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!!! Do NOT sign a tenancy agreement or hand over money for a property you HAVE NEVER SEEN! And remember...if something seems too good to be true, it probably is!!!!

I've been recently searching for an apartment in Stockholm and found Christina McQuillan who pressumably was a 25 years old wedding planner living alone, and offered me exactly the same Diana posted some months ago: a double-bed room in her father's flat with a payment of 4000 SEK and 6000 SEK for a security deposit (400 and 600 euros, respectively) via western union to her mother, who lived in London. This person is now using this e-mail address; tymaroom01@yahoo.com.

I was completely new in looking for accomodance abroad and knew nothing about scammers. Fortunately, I changed my mind just before making a terrible mistake (although he/she has now my full name and an e-mail address; hope nothing occurs because of that...). He/she sent me a scanned copy of "her" passport, probably belonging to a victim, probably belonging to nobody.

This is the real Molly Ellen Swanson here! I got scammed while looking for a place to live in London - didn't send any money, but I did send off a scan of my passport before I figured out that it was a scam. Now I'm kicking myself because I know that scammer is using my name to trick others.

A few would-be victims looked me up on Facebook and I was able to warn them before they sent any money, but I thought I'd post here also.

Does anyone know if anything can be done about this? Anyone have any luck reporting to the authorities?

i have also been in touch with the person who pretends to be ellen swanson. i was wondering about the people who already fell into the trap..to whom did you send the money, then? because, when someone opens up a bank account, he has to verify that he is the person on the id... so with the name of the recipient, it should be possible to trace back to the scammer?

and still i don't understand: what was written in the contract? did it look authentic and did it have the address on it?

I am totally shocked reading this all. I just found out yesterday that this is a fraud by contacting the law firm that "Molly Ellen Swanson" told us her lawyer worked for. This scam is crossing borders, she is now contacting exchange students from Germany looking on Gregs list for an apartment in NY. My daughters friend from Germany is looking for a place to live and I am so glad he asked us for assistance(mainly because he didn't understand everything she wrote) and I thought that we better check this all out. I feel so stupid now that it took two weeks for us to find out the truth. When she first contacted us I goggled just "her" name and absolutely nothing came up but a birth record and I thought she was okay. Today I put Swanson and gregs list fraud together in Google an all this came up. Her "lawyer" named Edgar L. Jones, in Dallas must be her partner in crime and I bet she lives in Dallas too. The only reason we didn't get scammed is that I couldn't find that lawyer listed anywhere and I got suspicious. "Her” passport makes you think this has to be real and I feel so bad for the real Molly having her info out there. I don't understand why this can't be stopped. Molly if you read this you need to go to the police and report it, your good name is being used and folks are scammed.

I almost wired 1600 to "Molly Ellen Swanson." for 635 42nd street in nyc. thank god i didnt. the red flag went up when she insisted that i wire the money to her lawyer in 110 clement, albany, ny. i've asked for her phone number numerous times and she has refused to give it to me. wow.. this is so scary. anyway, below is the contract which she wanted me to print out and give to her once i have arrived at her flat. she/he even sent a copy of the real molly swanson's passport too. i was so shocked... Rent 10. Subject to the provisions of this Agreement, the rent for the Property is $700.00 per month (the 'Rent'). Including all utilities (Electricity, gas, water, council tax, and waste disposal). The Tenant will pay the Rent on or before the first of each and every month of the term of this Agreement to the Landlord 635 W. 42nd street Manhattan,New York 10036 or at such other place as the Landlord may later designate. 11. The Landlord may increase the Rent for the Property upon providing to the Tenant the greater of 21 days notice and any notice required by the Act. 12. During the Term of this Agreement or after its termination, the Landlord may charge the Tenant or make deductions from the Security Deposit for any or all of the following: 1. repair of walls due to plugs, large nails or any unreasonable number of holes in the walls including the repainting of such damaged walls; 2. repainting required to repair the results of any other improper use or excessive damage by the Tenant; 3. unplugging toilets, sinks and drains; 4. replacing damaged or missing doors, windows, screens, mirrors or light fixtures; 5. repairing cuts, burns, or water damage to linoleum, rugs, and other areas; 6. any other repairs or cleaning due to any damage beyond normal wear and tear caused or permitted by the Tenant or by any person whom the Tenant is responsible for; 7. the cost of extermination where the Tenant or the Tenant's guests have brought or allowed insects into the Property or building; 8. repairs and replacement required where windows are left open which have caused plumbing to freeze, or rain or water damage to floors or walls; and 9. Any other purpose allowed under this Agreement or the Act.

For the purpose of this clause, the Landlord may charge the Tenant for professional cleaning and repairs if the Tenant has not made alternate arrangements with the Landlord. 17. The Tenant may not use the Security Deposit as payment for the Rent. 18. Within the lesser of I day and any time period required by the Act after the termination of this tenancy, the Landlord will deliver or mail the Security Deposit less any proper deductions or with further demand for payment to: ______________________________, or at such other place as the Tenant may advise.

Quiet Enjoyment 19. The Landlord covenants that on paying the Rent and performing the covenants contained in this Agreement, the Tenant will peacefully and quietly have, hold, and enjoy the Property for the agreed term.

Inspections 20. The Landlord and the Tenant will complete, sign and date an inspection report at the beginning and at the end of this tenancy.

Tenant Improvements 21. The Tenant will obtain written permission from the Landlord before doing any of the following: 1. applying adhesive materials, or inserting nails or hooks in walls or ceilings other than two small picture hooks per wall; 2. painting, wallpapering, redecorating or in any way significantly altering the appearance of the Property; 3. removing or adding walls, or performing any structural alterations; 4. installing a waterbed(s); 5. changing the amount of heat or power normally used on the Property as well as installing additional electrical wiring or heating units; 6. placing or exposing or allowing to be placed or exposed anywhere inside or outside the Property any placard, notice or sign for advertising or any other purpose; or 7. affixing to or erecting upon or near the Property any radio or TV antenna or tower. Insurance 22. The Tenant is hereby advised and understands that the personal property of the Tenant is not insured by the Landlord for either damage or loss, and the Landlord assumes no liability for any such loss. Watch out for Claire Robson, too! She pretends to be British national living in Amsterdam, who is currently living in Paris. So, she requires the payment of rent and deposit via wire tranfser, and promises to send keys and leasing agreement by post! When I asked her for the full address of the flat in Amsterdam in order to have a look at it, she refused and responded that may be I am not the tenant she is looking for. I'm so glad I checked this webpage. Molly Ellen Swanson almost got me but I knew something was off with how low the rent was for the apartment she claim she had in Manhattan. She was renting out a room in a 3 bedroom apt at 635 W 42nd Street in New York for $700 dollar a month. I looked up that address and those condo's go for well over a million dollars. I knew than that this girl is either stupid or a scammer. Thank God I googled her name and Facebook her. I could find anyone on Facebook which is very unusal these days. And as soon as I google her this webpage came up.

I have written about the property scammers over at my London Is Cool blog on numerous occasions trying to make people aware of the tricks that these scum scam artist get up too.

People need to start using their common sense, why would anybody part with money via Western Union or MoneyGram, for a property that they have never seen before. The bottom line is that a legitimate landlord would never take payment for their rent via money transfers, it just doesn’t happen.

People need to get real and use their common sense, the scammers are so obvious.

Hey people!thank you so much for this website! I was contacted through http://www.share-accommodation.net/hobart-house-sh yesterday about a really good apartment in Hobart, Tasmania which only costs A$400 per month including utility bills. I was very taken in by the gd location and the gd price and exchanged a few emails with a Marie Jacqueline who is supposedly a French citizen working for Jeppesen Boeing company, and she's currently in the UK doing supervisory work.

After confirming my interest in her apartment as well as giving her some personal details, her 'lawyer' with strong French accent immediately called and told me they're going to send me a tenancy agreement asap and I can view the apartment once I send them the security bond and advance rent which amount to A$1000 to a Western Union account.

I felt very very uneasy as I felt the agreement is very informal (8 pages long, inconsistent phrasing of words). I am not a law student, but I tried to google the tenancy act mentioned in the agreement (Assured Shorthold Tenancy as defined in Section 19A of the Housing Act 1988) and realized it was actually a UK law! Tasmania is goverened by Tasmanian tenancy law naturally. And from the following website: http://www.rentalagreementsdiy.com.au/tenancy_laws

I found out that Tasmania prohibited up-front fees for entering into, renewing, extending or continuing a residential tenancy agreement. Also, the security bond is only supposed to be 4 weeks of the rent, not 1.5 months of the rent as stipulated in the agreement.

I tried googling the name of the lawyer "Aaron Zuloaga" and his law firm "George & associates" to no avail. It just made me even more uneasy about this whole thing.

After I cut and pasted some parts of the agreement I received and googled it, I found your website and I really thank God that this confirms my suspicions!

My only worries now are they may use my name to scam others, especially those from Asian countries. Anyway, please please add "Marie Jacqueline" and "Aaron Zuloaga" to your list of scammers. And really, beware of emails from "mmarthe74@yahoo.com"!!

P/S: don't believe it if some imposter used my name to offer houses to rent too. It's unlikely I would become a tenant anytime soon. =)

Her English is quite horrible and she does keep asking for your personal information to create the lease. I haven't even seen her apartment and room in person! The rooms are fantastic in the pictures and the rates are amazingly good. I thought it was too good too be true and it certainly is!

In the beginning, I didn't realise that they are scammers as I need a room so bad, but when I received their replies with similar information that all of them are currently in London, I suspect there was something wrong here. Especially when I negotiated, they directly approved it. Finally I searched the addresses of the apartments they offered and I found the pictures and the prices are totally different from the Domain.com.au.

I wanna ask all of you, what should I do if I've told them my personal data, such as my current work, my university, my previous address in Melbourne, as well as my reference. I've also sent Lisa my scanned ID (student card), as I at that time I haven't realised that they made me fool and I was too excited with the room the offered.

I have also just recieved an email from the same person as above with a different address. They sent photos as well. This is the second person that has contacted me the first was Nicole Mcpharlane.

These people are fucking annoying. Dont send them any of your information.

If you can try and scam them back but if not i suggest a threatening emailing entaining that u have contacted the police etc. I know that this will not stop them but at least it will let them know that not everybody is as stupid as they are!

Anybody that offers you a large sum of money for cashing a check for them and hopes that you are honest enough to give them back their part of the check has got to be a fake. Would you ever just send a stranger a million dollar check and ask them to cash it and take 10,000 for themselves and send you the rest? If somebody has a million dollars, they could afford to not be in such a bind and to also have one of their own friends cash the darn check. ITS A FAKE!

I would like to add a name to the Craigslist scammers. I feel so stupid that I fell for this by listing something for sale on Craigslist. Thank goodness check sent to me was found to be fake by my bank and was shredded. All of the above posts sound so much like the numerous emails I received from this person.

I was so excited receiving their email and seeing lovely photos of their apartment in Melbourne CBD, with unbelievably low prices at $600AUD inclusive of all utilities and even free parking.

I was about to rent a room from Nancy Wink when something told me it was suspicious. She claimed that the rent comes with free off-street parking, which does NOT exist in Melbourne CBD! Anyone who has lived there or even visited knows... there are NO free off-street parking in Melbourne. I guess she didn't know this fact... which is why i googled her address and found this site.

Then all the other mails and names fell into pieces. They all share the same commonality: THEY ARE ALL IN THE UK!

So I suggest people be aware of mails like this. Don't just rent a place without seeing it or researching it. It's way more worth it to spend a bit staying in a hostel in the city you intend to stay, then look for a decent landlord!

As I joined share-accomodation.net,

Kim Lee , Nancy Wink and ian Benjamin emailed me about the nice apartment they're offering (at only A$600 - 800 per month).

They had the same stories in their emails - that they're in UK / South America at this moment and unavailable to show me the apartment. and they are not answering most of my questions (the exact address of the property, or if the washing machine and dryer are coin operated). I guess they're afraid to answer any of those questions cause the fraud might be exposed..

Fortunately I felt suspicious after getting the same stories from these emails and decided to google them up!

I'm so shock that I become one the victims on this scam.. Seriously doubt if share-accomodation.net is a good website..

I was just scammed from that same website - www.share-accommodation.net

I did not forward any money to Lisa Temuana or Maria Barquet-Lopez.. however, now they have a scanned copy of my Passport. I've just contacted the Australian Federal Police, the UK Consulate (as they said they were in London) and am in the process of cancelling my Passport. I suggest anyone who has fallen for this trap to do the same!

I have wasted there time, use a second free email accout, play their game, have them send you a check to a large business, ( they will sign the fedex or ups )

use a fake name

address to a large company

they will send a cashiers checke to the info you give them

then after a while the will email wanting you to send them the extra money,

I have waisted three scamers so far, it cost them money to send you the fake check.

First guy I stopped contact with him.

Another guy I lost the check and could he send another.

Another guy I said I never got check.

Thanks for the idea of telling them you sent the money western union.

Two real looking cashiers checke and one computer printed check so far, I'm sure it cost money for them to

make checks and the send them signed recieved.

But I'm scared she/he will be using my name next. Is there anything that I can do? I have not fallen for that and have been taking her for a round. i almost got scammed, a person calling themself patricia shannon, was "selling" a 2001 dodge 4x4 on craigslist for $2900 and claimed to have won it in her divorce and didn't have a license so she didn't need it. she only gave an email address, when i contacted her about the truck she said she wanted to use ebay vehicle protection program, she sent me a fake ebay page saying i could only use western union and i was supposed to send it to tyler martins in new york, They site looked just like an ebay page, but when i went on ebay to check it out they said to never use western union and then i knew it was fake. I typed the vin number of the truck into google and the same truck was on like thirty different sites for sale same pictures same vin and everything, but different location and different sale amounts watch out for this truck, the vin # is 3b7kf236x1g236283 i don't know who really owns this truck but i feel sorry for u if u ever try to sell it

I have had personal experiance with debbie phillips, she used to run Equitable lending here in pittsburgh, she was my land lord for sometime before i realized she was a charlitan (And forgive my spelling I am a dyslexic but i will do the best i can ha) when my roomate and i were on a joint lease i was paying my rent and wasnt informed for MONTHS that my roomate had not been paying his, she never contacted him and instead began to call threating me with eviction and court, so i paid the sum of 2000 to her (shoreing up the funds in under a month no less) then when all was said and done at the end of my lease i learned that she was being accused (and eventual pled guilty too) wire fraud, she would lie about all the money her lenders had to secure loans and the like from banks. well aparently all she was fined was around 4000 if i remember properly. at the end of my lease with this terrible woman, i ended up not getting my security deposit back from her, as she stated there were increadibly large repairs that i was at fault for in addition to accuseing me of stealing a rug and window ac...... No reciepts ever showed up and i ended up haveing to take her to court. She ended up skipping all the court dates and actualy moved! so now even though i won 2200 in court from her she will forever remain a deadbeat to me i am sure, so while i will never get the money i am owed by her .... hopefully anyone else out there will be able to avoid interaction with her due to helpfull pages like this!

I've been looking on craigslist to find an apartment in upstate New York, and more than one request for more information about an apartment has met with the same response. If an e-mail is from julia.mcshea@hotmail.com or from Mary Jones (jones@managedwel.com), it's a SCAM. I got the exact same e-mails from both, for different apartments.

This is the e-mail they sent:

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in the home. I am available to show the house this week if that fits your schedule. Just to give you a little more information about the home, the water, trash and garbage are paid by us. The security deposit can be paid in 2 installments if money is tight. (I know how that can be).

The house has a fenced in backyard and we do allow pets. The deposit per pet is a one time payment. The house includes a washer and dryer, and we pay for lawn care so the renter does not have to cut the grass. There is NO application fee.

I do require that all applicants and additional renters who will be living in the home complete a creditcheck to ensure their eligibility. I have so many people apply for homes that I have to make sure they are qualified renters before I show the property. This ensures neither of us will be wasting our time.

It is okay if you have bad credit (trust me). We just check to make sure that you don't have several evictions on your record. (We won't rent if you have 3 or more evictions on your record).

I also had to recently stop giving out the exact address of rental properties before I am able to show them because last time I did that the house was vandalized (I will be glad to send you the address right after your reply) I assure you though that this is a very safe neighborhood. I actually lived in this home for 2 years (very cozy).

There are tube stations within walking distance from the flat: Bayswater is one of the most attractive and lively areas of West/Central London.Its right on Queensway itself (opposite Whiteleys) and close to all of the numerous restaurants on that street as well as numerous bus stops going in all directions of London, and most of them 24-hours. The transportation links are unbeatable, but most parts of London are also close enough to go by foot in under 20 to 25 mins, and around the corner along Westbourne Grove. The trendy bars of Notting Hill are also within short walking distance. Queensway Tube (Central Line) and Bayswater Tube (Circle and District lines) are both are less than 7 minutes walk away.

Located(ideal for an early morning jog), and the shopping area is very short walk away, almost as you turn out of the road.

I didnt get scammed on craigslist but on tosublet.com Iwas a victum of the western union crap. After I wired the money she said that I had to pay for a tenancy id, renters insurance, and gov taxes....before I get my keys which she failed to mention in the lease and before. Does anyone know if I actually have a lease if I could still get the room? If not any other suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Below 2 mail id are sure shot spammers from nigeria, we enquired for apartment in London and they said they had one and ask for contract and other stuff from lawyer. We felt dodgy and I searched on the internet and saw them on a few spam site.

There are thousands of scammer victims out there including myself and the only way to catch these scammers is if enough people report it to the FBI or else they won't pay much attention to it. I recently got scammed by a man who introduced himself as "Dr. William Phillps", email: willphillps102@gmail.com and said he was a fossil hunter and he was coming to the states to exchange fossils with museums and was interested in renting out my apartment. He asked if we take care of his furniture delivery charges, long story short my father lost over $3,000. I have done everything I can but am determined to catch these a-holes, though I can't do it on my own. Please, if you have been vitimized by these scammers, you can contact the FBI or you can go to this website and file a report: WWW.IC3.gov ,this website is partners with the FBI. Every report makes a difference. Last but not LEAST!, never send money via western or any form of payment to anyone off the internet. If you're not sure then its better to be safe then sorry!

I just got the "too good to be true" response from a Mary Lauren Jones. It was for a room in a shared apartment $700, and although the reply was very thorough, it was also too perfect for the location. I googled the same address and found a studio apt. renting for $3500/mo.

"About the apartment:

The apartment belongs to my late father who was working with British High Commission here in New York until his death and he transferred the property to my mother through his will and my mother went back to London, UK after the death of my father, because she is originally from the UK and i am the only occupant of the apartment presently."

It feels almost believable through the entire email, minus the few places there is some odd word phrasing.

Thank you very much to Francesca for your post about Hannah and Herman John. I nearly fell prey to the same scam and received the same e-mail you copied. Prior to sending personal details, I decided to look them up online and found your post. Thank you so very much again!

The follow-up e-mail to this suspected scam is copied below. Another thing that tipped me off was the request for 133 Pounds (sterling) for insured shipping of keys and documents. I do a good amount of shipping to the UK and that is completely unreasonable. They seems to include it to ensure they get at least a bit of money, then all of your personal information as well for probably ID theft. Their communications are convincing enough, that I am still not sure if this is a scam. But there are a number of indicators that seem to point to something not quite right.

"Personally, I will like to just give you the apartment but I will have to further discuss the issue with my husband. You are not the first person approaching us for the place so I do appreciate a high level of seriousness because our schedule is very tight. We would like to conclude with the leasing process to focus on our regular business activities as soon as possible. It is because of our business we had to relocate to the UK in the first place.

There maybe a little problem but I will try to work things out with my husband. He bought the apartment because he normally does business in New York but we just want to lease it for the period we will be out of the states. This will be at least 6 years or more. My husband was considering selling off the property but changed his mind because we still have other long term plans for the place. We would like to know the exact duration you want to sign up for the apartment. We wish to start leasing starting from September/October.

Like I told you before that this is not about the money, which is why our price is very reasonable. The apartment had just been renovated with security access system installed. We just need someone to take good care of the apartment while we are away. I am very concerned about the state of my kitchen and bathroom. Some of the furniture had been moved to the store room under lock and key. This could be placed back if you like but I will also discuss that with my husband.

We intend to start collection of the rental fee of your duration after you have seen the place. We would probably use my husband's Chase account to facilitate the transaction. However, there is nobody there that will show you the place unless we make arrangement to send you the keys along with copies of the house documents, security access code, tenancy agreement and other lease signing papers.

I will try to talk to my husband today about sending you the keys and documents but you will need to scan us some form of your id or reference before we do that, preferably send us your work id, driver's license or state's id to verify your identification.

Alternatively, you can scan your letter of employment or admission letter as reference. The insured cost of shipping is also about £133 pounds. More so, after viewing the apartment, if you do not like it, you will also be responsible for sending us back our keys and documents.

The more recent scams include a lady named "Mandy Lawrence". She will use a gmail.com address, her most recent being mandylawrence06@gmail.com. She will offer jobs in customer service with payments up to $1200 for being a mystery shopper. She will ask you to use the money to send to a Kelly Muniz in Santa Fe, NM in the pretense of mystery shopping Money Gram.

They even go to the trouble to UPS the check. I took it to a teller I trust and imagine this...the check was a big FAKE! After Mandy was being so pushy for me to cash the check, etc I never heard from the broad again. I am glad I didn't lose money but someone else probably did.

The "appartment" she is offering is placed at Milano on Franklin street in the city and when I called them they confirmed that they get at least one person a month who has fallen for her lies and paid the $600 bond. She says she is 25 years old.

She sent me the following email:

Just to emphasis on some facts. I do not collect money before viewing. Read the mail very well and if you do not understand simply ask.

Since you are ready to view,i will plan my time here and make sure am there before you arrive.

The only thing is that i need double assurance, because i want to avoid traveling from Birmingham to london in vain, i can afford my fare, but i can't afford to waste my time.

My Lawyer will get a contract ready for you to sign if you like to take the room after viewing and the keys will be handed over to you immediately after contract has been signed.

Also, receipt of payment will be issued to you after which you'l have to sign the lease agreement form.

I was discussing with my Lawyer about the idea on how i will be so sure that i will not just waste my time to london without acheiving my the aim and she advised that we can work out something via Western Union Money Transfer.

She said that Western Union Money Transfer can actually hold the money as an evidence and surety that her tenant will pay her at least for the first month and deposit. She gave me an option on what we can do since you have the funds at hand which will be explained below:

PROCEDURE:

1) Transfer the amount £600 (1 month rent and security deposit) to any of your family members (wife, dad, mum, siblings) or your friend.

Your name (as sender) to any of your family members (wife, dad, mum, siblings) or your friend (as Receiver) in London or other parts of UK.

2) Scan & Send a copy of the Western Union Money Transfer transaction receipt as a proof of the transaction or mail me the transaction details. (The money is safe as it is only you that can withdraw since you need a national ID card or International passport)

3) Then, we will meet for viewing.

4) If you decide to take the room, we will go to any local Western Union Money Transfer office for you to pick up the money and pay me. (You don't need to come with cash to view, after viewing we will go together, you will cancel the transfer and withdraw the money to pay me).

5) Keys will be handed over to you after signing the contracts.

I received a fake bank check in which the scammer wanted me to deposit and mail them a refund. His name was Daniel Foreman. After I called him and his scam out, he never replied to my email. He will probably be using my name soon.

Beware of Victoria Adams - craigslist roommate (under any type of rental property)responses. Same ole "I'll send you more money than required and you send me money (I never gave you) back so I can move to USA. These types of emails are easily seen as skeptical and fraudulent. My suggestion, give them false (who'da thunk) information and let them incur the FEDEX etc... fees to send that fake "Cashiers check" from their boss, father, etc....maybe FEDEX will help screen their shipments. Lord knows the "law enforcement agencies" won't do anything.

Like wise we were nearly scammed from Rachel Peter(rachelpeter77@yahoo.com) I had actually sent the money via western union but after realised it was a scam, so i went back to western union site and cancelled the money transfer before they claimed it......just in time i'm sure as it was there night over in London. Then she(?) had the audacity to send an email back after we called her on it.

Also watch out for Misty Stephenson (mistysteph@yahoo.com), she was meant to have been also moving in to the Mebourne apartment. Swanson St.

We to posted an add on shareaccomodation.com and had about 20 emails from what i believe to be most of these scammers...

Luckily we cancelled the wire and didn't lose our money.

Also beware of Tina Andres (andres.tina80@gmail.com)she said that she had a solicitor in Adelaide looking after her lease, we rang the solicitors to check and they also said it was a scam.

So I think I just saved myself a huge problem with someone off of Criagslist. Her name is Gloria Holcomb and she is looking for someone in the Los Angeles area to care for her mom who is currently living with her in FL but wants to come back to Cali. Anyways we corresponded for a few days and she wanted me to give her an estimate on some groceries and sheets. Then she wrote offering me $6 more an hour and saying she would send me money upfront for the items and if i can arrange for shipment of the wheelchair and she'd send me the info on where to wire the money. Was kind of weary but decided I'd wait til the check cleared. Got it today and it's an obious fake, according to her it's from one of her clients at a beauty salon with it's address in FL. My question is why did the owner send the check from CA?? Anyways the bank teller looked at the check weird so I told her to check it out and it's a fake. Gloria is outraged cuz the wheelchair was supposed to be shipped today and asked if i could help her with 500 for today. Umm...I think not!! I told her she could send me money via Western Union but I do not accept any sort of check or money order. So thankful I didn't fall for it as my birthday is in 2.5 weeks and I am a fulltime nursing student and have bills to pay. So just beware..scams are happening for all sorts of things!

Ive had some really good luck over the past few years selling items I no longer had use for, but wanted the money to buy other things. Just recently my adds are being answered by scammers who have really crazy names and the spelling and the way they put their sentence structure together does not make sense, so they must be from another country. I dont like the way they get my hopes up of selling something else, as I want to buy a Fender Guitar really badly, and wanted to sell a telescope I have not used in a long time.

One guy wrote me back 3 times and I thought he was legit.......then when he started with the His secretary will have the movers come and the check will be sent PLUS 15% more for taking it off craigslist.......I knew then that it was a scam. I gave them the name and phone number and address of the chief of police in town.

Ok, adding John Andre here. he/she almost scammed me for a 1000 euros. Well, he/she turned out to be stupid enough to even check e-mails! he sent me 2 e-mails describing the same apartment with absolutely different pictures! he also sent me a copy of his passport (probably poor real John Andre once became a victim of the same fraud. Nancy Wink just tried it on me. Saying she had an apartment in sydney, very nice and very cheap...too cheap in fact. They really should do more research before they shit people around. If it wasn't for this site and some detective skills, I probably would have wasted alot of time. I'm pretty tight with my money so I would not have sent her or him anything. But some people would.

It happened to a friend of mine and his mum sent over $40,000 to some manipulative prick in Nigeria...These people feed on your emotions. And is desperate times people will do anything if they think there is hope...

Personally I hope these disgusting people get what they deserve. Maybe not so much a death sentence but perhaps a few tortuous devices would do the trick...

After many attempts of trying to establish a payment plan for them to catch up, they decided to pick up and leave without even paying the last months rent. Unfortunately she got me!!! £1200 ($2200) and I even gave her the sums two weeks apart because I told her I didn't have the full amount as I was a 21 year old struggling uni student! These people are reckless and have no care for others. Western Union is the most unsafe service the fact that this lady could show a scanned copy of the receipt to pick up my money when it clearly says photo ID must be provided is absolutely outrageous... showing this receipt is like showing someones lost ATM receipt at a bank and asking to take the money out! BEWARE OF JULIANE HANSCH.

They last claimed they were in northern California however the cell goes to Seattle WA and the domain they e-mail from was registered less than a month ago and does not go to a setup website. as at 16/01/2011, Ruth Fitzgerald is still in business, she now has new email address ruth.fitzgerald90@yahoo.com.au and she is just abit smarter with her techniques.

She is now acting as housemate looking for room. She contacted me and offered to pay 4weeks bond and 2 weeks rent in advance, the payment will be made via paypal, and again she is currently overseas working in crew ship with minimal access to internet and phoneline.

2 days later I received 2 emails from email address: fundstransation@officeemail.net, at first I thoght they were from paypal service when the name of sender show in my inbox as "service@paypal.com.au@R". Both emails have paypal logos.

First email says:

Thank you for using PayPal, this is a notification email about the transaction involving you and Ruth Fitzgerald. She gave me a lot of information about her (including photos) on easyroomate and told me I had to send as soon as possible a deposit to book the room in Dublin.

I also sent her my passport which she or he might is using right now!

I transfered a lot of money (2 months rate inculding a deposit) via money gram to London (to her "lawyer"). Unfortunately I discovered this page days to late!!.

If there is anywhere in the world a guy with the name Michael Tappauf, who has rooms for rent than do not believe "him", because thats me!!!! and I definitely havn't got any rooms to rent.

In fact I am looking for a room in Singapore and this girl named Vanessa Regan, 23 years old claimed that she is a wedding planner and her father owns a flat in 22 Cairnhill Road, Singapore. I think she is the same person which the members above met previously with different names such as Christina MacQuillan.

She asked for SGD600 for a room but I told her that is too expensive, and she agreed to rent the room at SGD500 for me. Actually I just replied her that I am keen to take up this offer but I want to view the room by next week. Luckily I did not reveal my passport ID to her. But I am kinda worry coz I have sent my full name, contact number and home address to her. Not sure will she misuse my name or not.

Hopefully when she asked me to send money via MoneyGram to her "Lawyer", I looked for his name on Georgia's bar council (as his address was in Georgia), and did not find any lawyer called "steve gomez", so I asked her the lawyer's bar number and state where he was licensed, but she said me she "didn't know because it wasn't her business", then I asked a way to contact him (to ask it myself) and that I would not send any money without some basic checking and she stopped anserwing me! Then I finally googled her name and found this website ... ( why didn't I do it before???)

On Friday I received email for a job I had applied to on Craigslist as an assistant. The email was from a lady calling herself NancyMunoz (nanym82@gmail.com).

Today I received an interview via messenger from a Philip Andrews. Explained what my duties are and is offering to fund for a home office and laptop which I am to reimburse the sender via transfer. I feel since he's paying for it this might be legit. Says he works for Dell computers. I don't know. Its sad when people prey on those who are trying to find work. All I know is Im logging everything, keeping copies and alerting my bank. (He says everything is paid Direct deposit, he doesn't trust checks since there are so many scams.) I am supposed to start working for this person Monday.

I decided to send her a mail anyway, just to be sure. I got the replies from all the adds at the same time from the same email address: juliajuliase@hotmail.com - she says that her name is Julia Kadman but then she signs her mails with the name: Dr. Anna Melin. She just got divorced, moved out of her 3 apartments in Stockholm and back to England. Unfortunately, she is the only one who has the keys for all of these apartments..

When it came down to come and see the person backed out. they then tried to hack my gmail account but i didn't have anything on there, i traced the IP address back to warsaw, Poland. luckily im moving so they only had my old address, but they now have my cell phone number! Bastards!

WATCH out for JOESPH AMADOR he rented us a room in the home his mom or aunt Linda Amador had rented and never paid she left home before eviction but not before taking appliances and other house hold items. Joesph Had rented us and another person a room in the home for 300.00 and a 100.00 deposit. 3 days after we all began moving in he said he was going to cali to spend the fourth with his daughter. We give him a ride to the bus station!!! And on Friday after the 4th a realator knocked believing no one was there but my 2 chi's started barking so then she realized someone was here. Men, there is a girl out there called Maria Sean. I got very suspicious from the first e-mail she sent me. She is on facebook, and tries to make out she is living in Nigeria, looking after her sick grand mother. Her father has left her $3.4 million dollars in his will, but she can't get access to it until she is married. After a few more e-mails of how much she has fallen for you, and what she likes and dislikes, she suddenly asks, for $250 dollars to be sent via Western Union to help pay for her grand mothers medical bills. She sends loads of photos etc, but it is so obviously a scam.

David Drabek has me concerned. he replied to one of my postings that included a piece of furniture for sale. We first talked via email. He told me approx where he lives which would be approx 12 miles from my house. Then we were tlking over the phone several times as to what day he could come. He gave me an approx date. Supposedly due to his work schedule. Since the day we discussed a day I have not heard any response. I have left messages on both phone and email. If he changed his mind why not just answer the phone or email and tell me. Now I am trying to figure out the email address he was using. I found the company name and will contact them to see what they may or may not know.

i placed a tv online and got a reply from Molly Swanson i first noticed that it was an instant reply after posting the ad then i sent her some some fake info a never made paypal and fake home address she then told me she would send the money to the paypal address good luck to her its fake but this is obviously a scam first she stuck on a boat at sea then she will get some to pick it up for her after she makes the payment and she was going to make the payment without knowing my address get real no one in the world trusts anyone let alone would give them money and trust you to give th item after you get it. I am currently working on seeing how far they will go as i will tell them i want to double the price then i will play with it for a while and eventually tell her to get FUCKED.

I sent in a resume for a receptionist job, then he emails me back with broken english basically saying that I should apply to be a "customer manager" offering 1900 biweekly & 5%of the transactions.

My first mistake was sending my real resume. I filled the app out and sent it back with some questions. He emailed right back not answering ANY of them. attaching an employment agreement sheet requesting i send a photo copy of my DL or passport for verify AGE... yeah right.. the website is very nice..

however, there are no reviews whatsoever, and i couldnt find it on my google maps app. lol He got my name address & phone number... but def not my DL or passport. I caught that one. smh

Have been getting a rash of responsess to my want ad in NY Craig's list asking for credit check to be filled out. Hint to those reading - be especially careful if they seem to ignore your questions or comments - "Sorry, I'm not interested as I don't want to share" got this response from TINA (email :tracybbygirlll949@gmail.com)....

Hey! Thanks for the reply! So, I sent that email out to a few people and I actually got a pretty good response back. So, I am just going to copy and paste my response to everyone and hopefully that will answer all of your questions.

First off: Attached are the pics. The first one is me. The second one is the room, and it has an attached bathroom. There is a small bed in there, but if you don’t want it we can throw it away. The final pic is my room.

Secondly: I’m sorry, but I am not giving out the specific address at this time. I’ve had bad experiences in the past with people (male and female) knocking on my door unexpectedly to check out the room. I would like to know more about you before I open the door.

Thirdly: Speaking of that, I am requesting that you provide a background check on yourself. I don’t care about credit (everyone’s credit sucks these days) but I do care about criminal history! There are several sites out there where you can self-order a background check. A simple Google search comes up with PeopleFinders .com, E-Verify .com, Intelius .com, and USSearch .com. Any of those should work for you. Click through them and check them out.

If you send me your background check and I can confirm you are not a mass-murderer (jk, kinda) we can move forward and set up a date/time to meet. If you CAN’T do a simple background check, I don’t want to be rude, but we probably can’t be roommates.
